James Deng is ruggedly handsome, superficially charming, treacherous and cunning. A successful businessman in California and China, he moonlights as a covert secret agent and smuggler of dangerous arms. He gives no thought to the potential consequences and is the perfect conduit. Director Wang is the leader of the mysterious People's Joy Bureau headquartered in the hot, humid island city of Xiamen in Fujian Province, China. James recklessly begins an affair with Wang's voluptuous assistant, Lisa Kuo, an American educated spy. She uses her contacts to set up secret meetings with potential clients, military officers, police and gangsters, in exchange for a piece of the action. Business is very good but Wang's Army cronies uncover their deception. James and Lisa narrowly escape assassination and flee, becoming reluctant, desperate partners. James uses his weapons training, Wang's loyalty and Lisa's connections to elude capture, but how long can he hold out? Southern China in 2018 is warm, beautiful and wealthy, ethnically diverse and culturally rich. The historic city of Xiamen, or Amoy as it was known in the imperial days, forms a lush, textured backdrop for the Perfect Man for the Job.
