The sequel to Journey blends science fiction and family saga to create a complicated and vibrant world, the people who cherish it, those who want to conquer it and those who bring it to the edge of ruin. The Kennerins pursue their desires and hatreds from the reaches of deep space to the smallest islands on Aerie, in a series of dangerous games whose stakes include the world and space and tauspace, beyond the reach of time.
On Anne Munro's first day as a writer at the horticulural software company Growing Light, her eccentric boss George Ashby is found murdered and the police discover a note that makes her the number one suspect. With the help of a sympathetic cop, Anne sets out to discover why she's being set up, but she soon finds out that the quirky employees of Growing Light aren't going to make that an easy mystery to solve.
She was different. The world had died and been reborn as a globe of order and beauty, of transmutable homes and Immortal lives, but she alone was fated to age and die among the ranks of the forever young, the forever beautiful. In a world where immortality promised a limitless future of ease and frivolity, Tia Hamley pursued a dangerous search for reality--into the heart of a mystery that could change the Earth forever.
Fleeing the disapproval of Earth's patrician families, Jason and Mish Kennerin have come to Aerie; distant, insular, inhabited by the enigmatic kasirene. Here they carve out a new life for themselves and their growing family, until the death of a nearby planetary system forces them to open their world, and their lives, to the chaos of change and the genesis of an empire they both crave and resist.
