Q1: Why is eReader.com shutting down?

Fictionwise comprised of several eBook retail websites including Fictionwise.com, eReader.com and eBookwise.com ("Fictionwise Websites") is in the process of winding down its operations. Over the past three years there has been a significant decrease in demand for many of the eBook formats that eReader.com sells. In contrast, the eBook format supported by Barnes & Noble--ePub--is growing in popularity.

Q2: What does the transfer option to a NOOK® Library at Barnes & Noble mean for me? How do I set up a BN.com account?

During the month of November, you will receive an email from eReader.com with instructions on how to opt-in to have your Bookshelf transferred to a BN.com NOOK Library. Once transferred, most of your eBooks in your Bookshelf should appear in your NOOK Library. See Question 10 below.

With your NOOK Library you will have access to an expansive and ever-growing eBookstore. You can read NOOK Books on NOOK's free mobile app for your iOS or Android smartphone or tablet, NOOK® for Windows 8 PC or Tablet, as well as reading your eBooks with your PC/Mac web browser, or on the award-winning NOOK® devices.

Q3: When is the last day that I can access my eReader.com Bookshelf?

eReader.com will continue selling eBooks until December 4, 2012. After December 4, 2012, you will no longer be able to purchase eBooks at eReader.com. From December 4, 2012 to December 21, 2012 customers in the US will still have the ability to download content from your existing Bookshelf. From December 4, 2012 to January 31, 2012, customers outside the US will still have the ability to download content from your existing Bookshelf.

* After December 21, 2012, eReader.com bookshelves will no longer be available for US customers.

* After January 31, 2013, eReader.com bookshelves will no longer be available to customers outside of the US.

Q4: What happens to my Rewards Dollars?

eReader.com customers in US:

Rewards Dollars are added to your account as store credits by purchasing eBooks with a Rewards Dollar promotion. Rewards Dollars are not cash refundable. If your eReader.com account has a Rewards Dollar balance, you will receive a Barnes & Noble promotional eGift card for the amount of your Rewards Dollars.

eReader.com customers outside of US:

Rewards Dollars are added to your account as store credits by purchasing eBooks with a Rewards Dollar promotion. Rewards Dollars are not cash refundable. We're sorry, but eReader.com customers outside the US are not eligible to receive a promotional eGift card.

Q5: Can eBooks purchased through eReader.com be enjoyed on a NOOK eBook Reader or on devices using NOOK software?

eReader.com customers who purchased an eBook without an unlock code can download the file for that title and side-load it onto the NOOK 1st Edition device.

Q6: I am a customer who is not based in the United States. What should I do?

We will only be able to provide the transfer option to customers who have a valid credit card with a billing address in the United States and the United Kingdom. If you do not have a valid credit card with a billing address in the United States or the United Kingdom, you should backup your files by downloading any of your past purchases that you are interested in reading in the future. If you haven't done so already, you have until January 31, 2013 to complete this process.

If you are an international customer with a valid credit card with a billing address in the United States and your preferred reading device is a smartphone, then you will be able to download content from your BN.com account the next time you (and your smartphone) are in the United States or the United Kingdom. Please note that as long as you have a valid credit card with a billing address in the United States, you will be able to transfer your Fictionwise.com account to BN.com by January 31, 2013; however, you would have to wait until the next time you and your device are physically in the United States or the United Kingdom before you can download your content to a device. Once your content has been downloaded to your device, you can use that device abroad for your reading pleasure.

Members of the United States military at a military installation outside of the United States or the United Kingdom will only be able to download content onto their devices (including iPad[TM], iPhone®, iPod touch®, Android[TM] and smartphones, NOOK ® for Windows 8 PC and Tablet, PC, and Mac®), which are physically located within the United States or the United Kingdom.

Members of the United States military who have a valid credit card with a billing address in the United States will also be able to download content via Wi-Fi® devices while on a military installation outside of the United States.

Q7: I already have a BN.com account. Do I just use that account or will I have to open a new one?

If you elect to opt in to have your Bookshelf transferred to a NOOK Library and you already have an account at BN.com, you may choose to transfer eBooks in your eReader.com Bookshelf to that existing BN.com account. If you don't have an existing BN.com account, you will have the option to set up a new account into which you can transfer your eBooks.

Q8: I have accounts at both Fictionwise.com and eReader.com. Should I transfer them both to a single BN.com account?

It is your choice whether to transfer both your Fictionwise.com and eReader.com accounts to a single BN.com account or to choose two separate BN.com accounts. Moreover, your BN.com account(s) can be existing accounts on BN.com or they could be new accounts you create just for this purpose. It is your choice.

Q9: What happens when I elect to transfer my eReader.com eBooks to NOOK Library?

BN.com only supports the ePub format, and BN.com is working with publishers to convert your content should you wish to transfer your eReader.com Bookshelf to a NOOK Library at BN.com. For any eBooks which are not converted for transfer to BN.com, we suggest that you download these eBooks if you haven't already, before December 21, 2012. Q10: I have personal content that I uploaded to my eReader.com Bookshelf. Will those items be transferred to my BN.com account?

Any personal content that you may have uploaded to your Bookshelf will not be transferred to the NOOK Library. Please make sure that you back up your personal files by downloading the material to your PC or Mac. Customer-uploaded personal content on eReader.com cannot be transferred to BN.com and will no longer be available on eReader.com after December 21, 2012.

Q11: How do I back up my current Fictionwise Bookshelf?

You can access your Bookshelf by logging in to your eReader account. Click the "download" button next to the title you choose to download. Your eBooks can be saved to a file on the hard drive of your computer.
